What is a good surround sound speaker system to get with the boxing week deals?

I have a PS3 which I stream video to and play blue ray movies. I'd like a receiver and speakers but I have no idea how much money I should spend for something good. I once went and bought a home theater in the box and the sound quality was terrible so I returned it. Does anyone have any recommendations for brands to stay away from and good systems they have run across? What does wattage mean? How can I tell if a system is good? What is a good surround sound speaker system to get with the boxing week deals?

Wattage is the last thing you want to look at - if the manufacturer stresses wattage #'s then the item probably isn't very good. The 1st thing to do is set a budget of what you will spend to achieve a level of good sound. then shop around at places where you can actually listen to the system, or from internet direct manufacturers (there are some very good ones) that basically give you a 30 day in home trial with no-questions asked return.
Good systems can run you into the hundreds of dollars, however if you are more concerned with just a good quality sounding surround sound system, then check this out: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as鈥?/a>

I have the older model of these and love them. However, if you are looking for a system that will shake you to the bone with bass and explosions and ear piercing highs, then this isn't it. But it certainly does get loud, and can be a very good system in any average sized room (like 12' x 10') or even a little larger.

If you are looking at more home theater designated system, then you'll be looking at around $400+
