Step by step instructions on buying a new car and insurance and getting it home? HELP?

I'm buying a new car very soon with the money i've been saving since birth! (im 21, the car is 15k chevy cobalt, but im going to try to haggle the dealership for a few thousand off by walking in with cash). I have no way other than taxi to get to and from the dealership because my friends are all poor and my father is mentally ill and will not/cannot help me out. So i feel like im going to get screwed, but i really need this thing to improve my life, get a job, get out of the house, etc. So 1) how do i buy this car and get it home since i need to actually buy the car b4 i buy insurance, duh.

2) once bought, will i have to physically leave the dealership, go home, buy progressive auto insurance, then run back there and pick the car up?

3) can i have the car towed home?

4) What documents besides my drivers liscence do i need to bring with me??

Thanks for any answers to help me on my feet!Step by step instructions on buying a new car and insurance and getting it home? HELP?

Okay, to begin with, cash isn't going to impress the dealership a bit. They are going to get the money for the car anyway, whether it comes from a finance company or your pocket, so don't think you have some advantage because you have cash. Just get the best deal you can.

Before you even go looking at cars, find an independent agent and give him your information and what you are looking to get, and let him do his homework in his data base.

Every dealership has a fax number, once you decide on the car you are buying, call your agent and give him the year, make, model and VIN of your new car and the dealership's fax number. He will fax you a card to carry in the car. You're covered now. Drive it home.

To answer your other question, yes, you could also get it towed, but that could get expensive to do.
You need to set up the insurance before you buy the car. Can't you call progressive from the car dealership and set up the insurance. When I bought my car from carmax they offered to let me use a computer to set up insurance through esurance. The dealership will help you. They want you to buy your car and take it home ASAP. It's easier for them.
1. go to the dealership, pick out your car, get the vin # off the car, call several insurance companies and get a quote how much your insurance will be for 6 months. the lowest price you want. then you need to go back to dealership and purchase the car. If the insurance company will bind your coverage on the phone, then you are good to go.
call an auto insurance company first

tell them the year/make/model of the vehicle and that you want full coverage...they will ask some questions...be honest with your answers

you will not be able to buy a car from a dealership until you have insurance on it...most states require full coverage on new vehicles

once you have proof of insurance you can go and buy the car

they will put a temporary plate on it and you will have 30 days before you have to get normal plates
