Do you think it is time to make a change in our government, and how they get paid?

Do you think it is time to vote all the bums out of Congress and the Senate, and replace them with new people? Anyone running should make a commitment to take the decision out of their own hands about their pay and raises. I think their incomes should come from their home state, not from Federal taxes. Each state legislature should set their income, with it being no more than double the average income in their state. Instead of our Federal Legislators buying fancy and expensive homes, the states buys a condo, which will be used by who ever is currently serving. Further, state legislator incomes should be paid by the counties they represent, and if they need a home at the state capitol city, the county will buy a place for them to live in. Incomes will be no higher than twice the average income in their county. Any money paid for the Representative to speak at functions, or other program, will go into the State or County coffers.Do you think it is time to make a change in our government, and how they get paid?
Currently, legislator incomes are only about 3 times the national household average income. It really isn't as bad as you seem to think. Plus, the last Amendment they passed makes all Congressional raises take place AFTER the next election. So if they voted themselves a raise, and we didn't like it, we could vote them out before they ever received it.

And the less we pay, the less-capable people we're going to attract for the job. The fact is, and those of us who make very little don't want to believe it, but most of those making above the avverage income actually earned that money. Not the wealthiest 10% or 1%, those tend to be inheritances, but more than half of the top 50% actually earned that money.Do you think it is time to make a change in our government, and how they get paid?
its the same all over the world m8 the ones at the top always pay themselves a huge whack while the rest of the world are left to pick up the crumbs
Not necessary.

Just highlights the errors and give them a solution in overcoming the problems instead of kicking them on the butts.

When the too were living human kind like you and me lost and stranded on planet earth.

Not even the master of all things in life on planet earth.
Sounds ideal but far-out from reality...
I would much prefer a volunteer basis, no pay, no home. Let's see how many get real jobs.
State legislator salaries in Tennessee are only around $18,000 a year.
Good luck, these are all great ideas, but you are asking people to give up money. The two things I would like to see are: 1) Make politicians give up leftover campaign money (to the general fund or non-political charity) and 2) outlaw lobbying (lobbyists bog down the system.

I am behind you 199%.

The biggest problem is that everyone thinks their guy is O.K. and the others are the problem.
I think its an excellent idea, but to make the changes, would require a vote of those in congress.
seems ideal yes...but how would you be able to restrict major corporations contributing ';donations'; to them. they are slime balls, they will find anyway they can to persuade anyone in power to thinking in their favour. and money sure does the trick with most.
